How HealthSageAI uses artificial intelligence and its limitations.
Last updated: October 1, 2025
HealthSageAI uses artificial intelligence to help you explore and understand health information.
We believe in transparency. This page explains how AI is used in the Service, what it can and cannot do, and what you should do to use it responsibly. AI is a powerful tool for learning, but it has real limitations, especially when it comes to your health.
How AI Is Used
HealthSageAI uses artificial intelligence to generate responses to your health questions. Specifically, AI is used for:
- Answer generation. Producing structured, educational responses across multiple modes including Quick Answer, Explain Simply, Evidence Review, and Deep Research.
- Source retrieval. Searching for and surfacing relevant sources such as government health agencies, medical organizations, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and peer-reviewed research to provide citations alongside responses.
- Evidence context. Categorizing the strength and nature of supporting evidence (for example, "multiple high-quality sources" versus "limited evidence") so you can understand how well-supported a claim is.
- Summaries. Condensing complex research into plain-language explanations, key points, and research briefs.
AI is a tool to help you explore and understand health information. It is not a medical professional and its output should not be treated as professional advice.
AI Limitations
AI-generated content has important limitations that you should understand before relying on it:
- Possible errors. AI can produce statements that are inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated. The Service does not guarantee the correctness of any AI-generated response.
- Hallucination risk. AI models may generate content that sounds plausible but is not supported by evidence, including fabricated citations, studies, or statistics. Always verify claims and citations against original sources.
- Not a substitute for professional judgment. AI cannot evaluate your individual medical history, perform a physical examination, or account for factors that a qualified healthcare professional would consider. It should never replace professional judgment.
- Context boundaries. AI responses are generated from the information available in the prompt and retrieved context. It may not account for the most recent research or for nuances that require domain expertise to interpret correctly.
Source Retrieval and Citation Limitations
When the Service retrieves sources, it attempts to find relevant and credible references. However, you should be aware of the following limitations:
- Retrieval may not return the most relevant or highest-quality source for every question. The set of sources reflects what was available and matched, not a definitive literature review.
- Citations may occasionally point to sources that do not fully support the specific claim they are attached to. Always read the original source before relying on a citation.
- If live research retrieval is not configured or available, Deep Research mode will indicate this rather than fabricating research results or citations.
- Source snippets are extracted automatically and may omit important context, caveats, or limitations present in the full publication.
Your Responsibility to Verify
You are responsible for verifying information from HealthSageAI against original sources before making decisions or sharing it with others. When a response includes citations, use them to access the underlying publications and confirm that the source says what the response claims it says.
Treat AI-generated summaries as a starting point for further research, not as a final answer. If a source is behind a paywall or unavailable, look for the abstract or a reputable secondary source before drawing conclusions.
Medical Limitations
HealthSageAI is not a medical device and is not intended for clinical use. It cannot diagnose conditions, recommend treatments, prescribe medications, or interpret your personal lab results in a clinical context. Any discussion of conditions, tests, or treatments is educational and reflects what the literature or guidelines say in general, not what applies to you specifically.
For full details, see our Medical Disclaimer.
The Role of Human Professionals
AI is a supplement to, not a replacement for, human healthcare professionals. A qualified physician, nurse, pharmacist, or other licensed provider brings training, experience, and knowledge of your individual situation that no AI system can replicate. Use HealthSageAI to learn, to prepare questions, and to explore research, then bring what you learn to a conversation with a professional who can apply it to your specific circumstances.
Data Processing
When you ask a question, your prompt and relevant context are sent to an AI model provider to generate a response. The provider processes this data to return an answer and may retain inputs and outputs for a limited period according to its own policies. We select providers that offer data-processing agreements and limit retention where available.
We do not knowingly send sensitive personal health records to AI providers. For full details on how your data is handled, see our Privacy Policy.
Always verify, always consult
AI can help you ask better questions and understand the landscape of health research. It cannot replace original sources or a qualified healthcare professional. Verify what you read, and bring your questions to someone who knows your health.
